Many people sleep with a partner and Kingsdown have designed a mattress especially for couples: the Kingsdown Partner Perfect. The company claims this mattress is the best and most technically advance mattress for couples. I doubt this is true. The biggest problem with traditional inner-spring mattresses is wave-motion. This is movement felt by one partner when the other moves. This movement is inherent in all inner-spring mattresses because all the coils are interconnected. The wave movement is more pronounced when one partner is significantly heavier than the other. If you have this problem you might be better off looking at other types of mattresses like memory foam from Tempur Pedic or a pocket coil system from a manufacturer like Simmons.
Simmons makes the following models of ComforPedic mattresses: The Simmons ComforPedic Original - comes with a removable, professionally dry-cleanable velour and suede cover; The Simmons Nassau - comes with an additional layer of latex; the Simmons ComforPedic Natural is the next step up - you get a thicker layer or memory foam, an inner-layer of latex and the Simmons patented Edge Support System (some people do like a firm edge to their mattress though how this offers more support whilst sleeping is beyond me); the Simmons Mystere - comes with the thickest memory foam layer, otherwise it's the same as the ComforPedic Natural; the Simmons ComforPedic Nuvo - this is the most expensive and comes with the Simmons Nuvo bed and allows custom positioning of the mattress, which can be programmed to an array of positions.
A good quality mattress costs a lot of money and a Stearns and Foster mattress costs even more. So, if you're thinking of spending that much money, you need to be 100% certain that you've made the right choice in your selection of mattress. And, while there's no arguing that the company makes a good product, you shouldn't necessarily believe all the 'sales pitch'. By not opting for optional extras, you can literally save yourself hundreds (perhaps even thousands) of dollars.
You'll want to make a wood frame by imparting panels to the bottom of the ply board base and then bringing sides. L-brackets do well for ensuring corners. Make sure the sides are deep enough to hold the mattress safe yet not so high that the trundle bed is hard to glide below the bed.
